Musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, and circulatory systems in Essay
Musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, and circulatory systems in ergonomics - Essay Example The human skeleton has 206 bones. The bonesââ¬â¢ mobility is dependent on muscle contraction. Every muscle is attached by a connective tissue to two or more bones. First, the spine enables bending, twisting, and holding the body in an upright position, along with providing an avenue through the spinal cord for the brain to communicate with the whole body. Fixed postures and prolonged seating causes low back pain. This is as a result of a shift in position of the spine discs. Second, muscles contain thousands of tiny aligned fibers. Muscles are responsible for the movement in the human body. Muscles function to produce motion and force. It generates force by contraction. Muscles use a lot of nutrients and oxygen. The muscle activity results in the production of metabolic wastes, such as, lactic acid and CO2. In this perspective, prolonged muscle contraction increases muscle fatigue and risk of injury (Kahn & Line, 2008). Third, tendons are tough and flexible band of fibrous connective tissue which joins muscles to bones. They transfer forces and movements from the muscles. Most of them run through guiding sheaths and do not stretch. Tendinitis is an inflammation of the tendon that causes point swelling. Next, ligaments are groups of dense, white, fibrous elastic tissue. A ligament connects bones to bones in order to form a joint. Majority of the ligaments limit dislocation. They stabilize and support the joints by holding the joints together. A sprain causes the fibrous elastic tissues to stretch or get torn from the bone (Pheasant & Haslegrave, 2011). Fifth, fascia is a thin, gelatinous membrane that surrounds and is fused with the blood vessels, muscles, bones, tendons, nerves, and organs throughout your body. It supports, connects, and compartmentalizes various body parts. Strain stretches the fascia leading to pain. Lastly, bursa is fluid-filled sac located at bone joints and it is lined with a synovial membrane. It

The following is a summary of applied formulae for computing different ratios. ... The following table summarizes major ratios for the company over the three accounting periods based on the above formulae. Table 1: Computed ratios for IBM for the years ended 2010, 2011, and 2012 Ratio 2010 2011 2012 Current ratio 1.18623342 1.2090307 1.13313467 Quick ratio 0.52857354 1.02281414 0.98846991 Debt to total assets ratio 0.79574622 0.82620048 0.84075562 Debt to equity ratio 3.91733923 4.77688946 5.31436903 Long term debt to equity ratio 0.94793023 1.13501837 1.27720042 Times interest earned 52.5951087 50.0997567 46.7167756 Inventory turnover 21.982449 22.5220151 22.2077018 Fixed assets turnover 1.52856006 1.52461644 1.49766409 Total assets turnover 0.88028417 0.85774652 0.87664097 Gross profit margin 46.07% 46.89% 48.13% Operating profit margin 18.17% 18.97% 19.56% Net profit margin 14.85% 14.83% 15.89 Return on assets 17.06% 17.69% 17.99% Return on share holderââ¬â¢s equity 83.98% 102.25% 113.70% (Data source: IBM annual reports for the years 2010 and 2011) Discussio n The company enjoys high liquidity ratios and this indicates its ability to meet its short-term objectives. Its current ratios are good and indicate stability as they fluctuate above one over the three years. Even though the acid-test ratio was low in the year 2010, it improved in 2011 and the slight decrease in 2012 does not induce much threat. IBM however has significantly high ââ¬Ëleverageââ¬â¢ ratios and this indicates its vulnerability to risks of credit capital. Even though the debt to total equity ratio is bellow 1, its increasing trend over the three years indicate that it will soon reach and even surpass one, a factors that will further expose the organization to sustainability risks. Long-term debt to equity ratio was fair in the year 2010 but also has an

The variety of sweet flagrances provides the ladies with the assurance of comfort. Conversely, the men suit advertisement target means. In this regard, Men are fond of grooming and the commercial concentrates on the scale, color and the suit designs (Smith, Alan and Chris 34). The factors dictate the age bracket of the suit sales. The young generation is usually obsessed with grooming. Therefore, the men suit adverts target the majority of potential men suit customers. The advertising team has prior knowledge concerning the tastes and preferences of the mens suits. The information can be obtained from past experience of men suit sales, fashion show magazines, newspapers and literal observations. The factors help the advertising team to objectively pursue their target audience. The product adverts never targets the general population given that the old generation category of people is never concerned with grooming. There is something around a man in a suit that enables him look amazing. A man in a suit says; he is working, he is getting things going, and he is fruitful. Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade - Assignment Example While the Portuguese started off by probing into gold and spice trade, over time another commodity made way into their cargo; African men, women, and children. Towards the end of the fifteenth century, over 10 percent of the Portuguese population was African, due to the extensive slave trading engaged in during this time. The Portuguese started using these captives as enslaved labor on extensive sugar plantations on a scale large enough to overshadow any other atrocity being committed around the world. The development of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade had a direct impact on the development of the modern capitalist economic system. The capitalist economy flourished fervently primarily on the basis of plantation owners who used enslaved labor to grow their crops. By the mid-1600ââ¬â¢s, the creation of ever growing sugar plantations along with many others, such as coffee, cocoa, rice, tobacco, indigo, and cotton, led to an increased demand for African slaves. This increase in demand was followed by the displacement of an estimated seven million Africans between mid-1600ââ¬â¢s and early 1800ââ¬â¢s. The increased demand for labor gave opportunists and entrepreneurs a gateway to engage in innovative ways to gain as many Africans as possible. The Europeans started engaging in a barter system with the Africans, whereby African slaves were purchased in exchange of cloth, gold, silver, copper bracelets and even military goods. The human resource and all other commodities robbed off Africa by the European are precisely what drove the capitalist development and accumulation of wealth in Europe. Trade was at its peak and the commodity of prime demand was humans. By definition, it is quite simple to differentiate between slavery and indenture. While slavery can be seen as a system whereby individuals can be bought and sold as property and forced to work under unimaginable conditions, indenture is viewed as a system of debt bondage whereby an individual is transported from one place to another and is made to work as a servant with no paid wages but allowance for food, accommodation, clothing, and training.

For this purpose, a good financial plan is the crucial document which needs to be prepared wisely and as far as accurately in order to ensure that those who express their interest to finance the business must have a very clear idea of the resources required to successfully start the new business. This financial plan is being prepared for a small cookie manufacturing business involved in preparing and selling the same to a large chain store through its various stores located all across the state. Before attempting to present the financial plan, it is very important that the financial plan must outline some of the assumptions which would be taken into account while preparing the financial plan so that all the calculations made are justified. Our proposed business is going to work in retail industry. Though the industry for cookies exclusively has not yet developed however since most of the time they are being sold mostly through the retail stores therefore on broader terms, this product belong to retail industry. Since these chain stores develop their own brand names as well as customer loyalty therefore the businesses which sale their products to these chain stores also get the exposures to their brands. On the whole industry is very lucrative, have good margins however there is a growing stress being placed on cost reductions as large chain stores like Wal Mart tend to buy at low prices therefore virtually forcing the suppliers to remain within their cost limits. This fact can alone dictate that in future, due to cost reductions, the margins for this business may increase and efficiencies gained. Customer Analysis Customers in this sort of business tend to develop their tastes on some particular brands and they prefer to buy their own brands. Therefore a good customer analysis is very necessary for the success of the business.
